What do Black History Month and bees have in common?

A few years ago I was all abuzz about this fact that I learned...

Honeybees see in color. 

Or maybe I've never actually paid attention to what bugs can and can't see (other than those images that make it look like bug eyes see a kaleidoscope). 

Charles Henry Turner, the first Black entomologist, was passionate about bugs. His discovery that honey bees see in vibrant color, however, was credited to Karl von Frisch who earned the Nobel Peace Prize. 

During Black History Month, it's important that we celebrate and elevate Black voices such as these, and what better way to do it than with an art project where we can bring bees and all the colors to the stage in memory of Turner.
